There was nothing to choose between the pair as they galloped to the line and it was Recession Proof, trained by John Quinn and ridden by Dougie Costello, who prevailed by a short head from Brian Ellison's charge.

Notus De La Tour (10-1) was a gallant third, a length and a quarter away, after making most of the running in what was a rough race.

The favourite Walkon was a big disappointment, finishing towards the rear and never able to get in a blow.

Costello said: "The boss has tutored him through very well. He's given him all the experience and he won at Lingfield over two miles and three (furlongs) on heavy ground.

"I had to commit going to the last but he's won well. I had a lovely position down the rail and he's a horse with real class."

"Notus De La Tour will be the sole runner from Pond House in the totesport and will be ridden by Tom Scudamore."

Solix is set to make his first start on British soil having arrived from France with a big reputation, while Henderson also saddles last season's Triumph Hurdle winner Soldatino and Eradicate. Joining Solix at the head of the weights is King's Salden Licht.

The Barbury Castle handler is also represented by Walkon and The Betchworth Kid. Bothy, Sweet My Lord, Recession Proof and last year's winner Get Me Out Of Here all remain in the line-up.
